Here are webcam sites to use with your students. A webcam site is a web site with a live camera focused on a particular location or scene. The video or stills from this camera are then conveyed over the Internet and accessed through the site. Almost all sites tell you how often photos are refreshed, anywhere from once every 30 seconds to daily or more. In some cases, there are streaming video sites that update the picture on a continuous basis. In some, you need to "refresh" the picture manually. Note that none of these sites is specifically educational. You’ll need to pick and choose on sites with multiple webcam links. While many sites list webcams around the world, none have all the sites in each country listed so try different lists. Most major cities have webcams showing a city view or traffic. Try one of the single sites as an introduction, then move on to the "gateway sites" to choose your own sequence. Remember, too, that our daytime is night in Asia; and European and African sites are 5-7 hours ahead of our time. You’ll still get a picture but it will be frequently too dark to see anything. All URL’s are underlined and all sites were operational as of January 21, 2005. Remember that cams can be unavailable without notice due the vagaries of weather.
