Here are the facts about our flood in March

 

1/ We heard a sewer pipe broke and flooded your center.  Is that true?

    Nope.  All the papers got it wrong.  A water supply valve broke on the floor above us and flooded our offices.
    It was clean water and it didn't flood the whole place.

 

2/ How deep did it get? 

    Since the water came from overhead, it didn't get very deep.  Just very wet.  The ceilings, walls, and furniture
    had to be replaced.  Luckily, only certain parts of the AVA Center got wet.  Some stayed dry throughout. 

 

3/ Did you lose all your videos?

    We lost about 15% of our collection, including all of the CD-ROM titles. 

 

4/ What about the rest of the titles?  The DVDs?  The Models?

    Let's start with the models- We had to replace a couple of models.  The rest were stored away from the
    flooded areas.

    We had to replace a couple of DVDs.

    About 65% of the remaining videos have new cases and most have new labels.  The videos didn't get wet,
    we just took advantage of the opportunity to clean them up. 

    AS A PRECAUTION, EVERYTHING WAS WIPED TWICE WITH DISINFECTING WIPES. 
    NOTHING THAT GOES OUT THIS YEAR GOT WET.

 

5/ What about the titles you lost?  Did you replace them?

    Yes, and no.  Some titles that were recent were replaced.  A lot of titles are no longer available. 

    Here's the good news!  We've purchased hundreds of new titles to replace the ones we lost!!

 

6/ Great!  Where do we get a list of the new titles?

    The most up-to-date resource will be the online catalog.  Check your deliveries for flyers listing new titles, too.

 

7/ Will all of these titles be ready when school starts?

    Sorry.  The sheer volume of new videos means that some won't arrive until after school starts. We plan on
    sending out a mid-year supplement, in addition to flyers, to let you know about new titles purchased after
    school starts.

 

8/ What about your catalog?  When will we get that?

    Probably around the middle of October.

 

9/ I know of a video you might want to purchase.  How do I let you know?

    Just call the AVA Center at #451-0817.  Or drop a note in the pickup.

10/ How do I order the new titles?

    The same as before:

    1/ Call us at #451-0817
    2/ Use the online catalog.  Go to our home page and click on the Search button.  Use your teacher number to
    log-in to the catalog.  ie. School code - 1234   Teacher number - 4321   Then click Submit
    3/ Email us at  avacenter@cumbavac.org
    4/ Send a written order in the pickup on Fridays.

 

    Don't know your teacher number?  Just call and ask! 

New teacher?  Just call us, too.  Chances are, the school has
    given us your name and we've already assigned you a teacher number.
